Melaka Food Guide - #Hyukkie's Food Recommendation

Hey guys, welcome back to my blog! Here's my Melaka Food Guide, just a short one, because I didn't go many places this times besides staying in my luxurious hotel room as mentioned in my latest post. You may check out my previous post about 5-Star Ramada Plaza Melaka hotel by clicking on the link if you're interested. Okay, now let's get our food journey started!

Calanthe Art Cafe

Hubby and I had a simple but hearty breakfast in Calanthe Art Cafe at Jonker Walk. Calanthe Art Cafe offers a range of breakfast menu from English breakfast to our Malaysian Local delights starting from 8am to 12pm. Hubby and I wanted to have the Calanthe's Laksa, which is our favourite, but it's only available at noon. So sad. :(

Besides that, if you're a coffee lover, don't miss out the chance to taste all 13 states' coffees in Malaysia at Calanthe Art Cafe. Every coffee from different states has a unique taste and are made from different coffee beans with different brewing method. For example, Selangor coffee is made from 100% Arabica beans, mixed with margarine and sugar, while for Perak coffee, it is modern white coffee.

Famosa Chicken Rice Ball 古城鸡饭粒

Here's our lunch! (so sorry for the shitty photo lol.) Half chicken (RM20), roast pork (RM10), 3 chicken rice balls (RM0.40 each) and a bowl of fragrant rice (RM2).

Honestly, this isn't the best chicken rice ball in town. I wouldn't recommend this to you if you're looking for some good chicken rice ball in Melaka. Other chicken rice ball restaurants are always packed, so if you do not wish to wait in a long queue under the sun, Famosa Chicken Rice Ball may be a better choice for you, since they have fewer people and they have many branches in Melaka.

Here comes my #Hyukkie's Food Recommendation:

Pork Lard Popiah at Jalan Bunga Raya

Bunga Raya Popiah opens daily from 12pm to 6pm and it's located in the same row as Madam King's Department Store. 

Do expect a short queue if you're planning to visit here. People are willing to queue for the delicious Pork Lard popiah even if they have to wait under the hot sun. Lucky me, I went there when they were just opened for business, so there was no queue yet. I guess I was their first customer of the day lol. You may try to go there early like me to avoid the queue and also to get some FRESHLY MADE popiah! :) My popiah was still hot when the man handed it to me.  

Pork Lard Popiah (RM5 each)

For a minute, I thought RM5 for a popiah was really expensive, and I ordered 2 before even knowing the price. Then, I thought otherwise after I got the popiah because they were really dense and they were slightly bigger in size than the popiah(s) from any other places.

This pork lard popiah is definitely the best of the best! It tasted marvellous! I'd tried another pork lard popiah at Poh Piah Lwee during my previous Melaka trip but it can never beat this one. Look at the generous amount of pork lard the man gave me. 

Even though the flavour of this pork lard popiah may be too overpowering and sweet for those who don't like or seldom have pork lard in their lives, but you may still give it a try, even if it's just a small bite. Sadly, as a pork lard lover, I couldn't finish a whole roll on my own because it can get really greasy at some point which will make you stop eating it, but the flavour was very satisfying lol.
